Guidlines To Happy Gig-ing (aka, 10 things I think you should read)

Posted on: May 14, 2009

So its a gig and they dont need rules BUT I thought I would write down some guidlines based on my observations from the 28 gigs I’ve been to (okay so its not as many as some people but its more than others).

  1. This is mainly for guys, but girls should read it and acknowledge the stupidity of what you do.  If you are with your girlfriend/boyfriend please do NOT stand with your arms around her all protectively. Yes we all know you love her and want everyone to be aware of this but purrrlease, its really annoying how you dont let anyone come within a mile radius of you (and godforbid that someone actually bumps into you both).
  2. Following on from #1. If you do insist on standing like that, at least stand at the side/back/bascially not in the middle at the front. We know its your girlfriends favourite band like ever and she wants to get really close to them, but standing as noted in #1 means you are taking up valuable space and your going to get pushed a bit anyway.
  3. Tall people stand further back please :]
  4. If you have long hair please tie it up, especially guys with frizzy hair. It kinda gets in peoples mouths and also sticks to their fingers with the sweat. Tis not nice
  5. Try not to just stand there like a pleb, if you’ve payed to see the band you must like them enough to move to the music. (If you want to stand still, the side/back/basically not in the middle are better places to do it)
  6. If free water is being passed out, dont hog it all. Take a sip and see if your neighbours want any. If they dont either finish it or chuck it backwards to cool down people behind :]
  7. Being really violent in pits is quite uncalled for
  8. Look out for the people around you, if someone falls over or is getting really squashed try to help them.
  9. The support are often called warmups because jumping around to them warms you up and you are less likely to get a stitch/exhausted when the main band is on.
  10. There are no rules to giging. Just have fun and enjoy yourself and forget about what other people think.
